"Volta a Portugal 2026: The Dates You Can Already Mark on Your Calendar".

The Volta a Portugal in Cycling returns to Portuguese roads from August 5 to 16, 2026, for its 87th edition, once again promising to bring together some of the finest national and international riders in one of the most iconic stage races on the European cycling calendar.

Over twelve days of racing, riders will face a demanding route made up of a prologue, nine road stages and an individual time trial, totalling more than 1,422.5 kilometres and 23,280 metres of accumulated elevation gain. The rest day is scheduled for August 11, coinciding with the first edition of “A Grandíssima”, the official Volta a Portugal Granfondo.

Without yet revealing the route details, the organisers confirm that the 2026 edition has been designed to strike a balance between spectacle, sporting challenge and showcasing the territory, with challenges for every type of rider. The mountain stages will once again play a decisive role in the fight for the Yellow Jersey, while the individual time trial and several medium-mountain days promise to keep the general classification wide open until the final days.

Volta a Portugal 2026 will once again bring together some of the leading teams on the national scene, alongside several international squads, delivering a competitive and well-balanced peloton throughout the twelve days of racing. The diversity of teams and nationalities will help reinforce the race’s international character and raise the competitive level of a race that remains a benchmark on the Portuguese cycling calendar.

The 2026 edition also takes on special significance as it comes ahead of the Volta a Portugal centenary, to be celebrated in 2027. In that context, the organisers are preparing a particularly ambitious edition, marked by the modernisation of the race, an enhanced fan experience, and a stronger national and international media profile.

In the coming weeks, new details about the 87th Volta a Portugal will be announced, including the full route, the participating teams and the main highlights of an edition that promises to put cycling back at the heart of the Portuguese summer.
